Through his timeless and comprehensive techniques, resident yogi Sajeesh has helped to influence and shape the yoga and meditation programs at Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti. With a diploma in Ayurvedic medicine and anatomy as well as certificates in yoga teaching, Thai massage and western massage, Sajeesh has brought his experience, knowledge and spirituality to the Lodge. We sat down with Sajeesh to learn more about his passion for yoga and his thoughts on the Resort’s new meditation experiences:

What influenced you to teach yoga and how long have you been practicing for?FPO_SBT_262

I have practiced yoga since my childhood but I was not very serious about it until I met my master, now it has become my passion. I want to serve the world with spirituality.

What are your favourite aspects of the job?

Serving people, sharing my knowledge and showing others the path to peace or the true happiness within.

Is yoga suitable for those who haven’t practiced before? What tips would you offer to anyone starting out?

Certainly, yoga is for everyone. However, if you have any health issues you should consult your doctor before engaging in physical exercise. In terms of tips, I would say be patient with your progress, gradually you will acquire the flexibility. Never force yourself and work within your level.

What are the benefits of yoga?

Yoga aids physical and mental fitness, providing a healthy lifestyle. You will feel at peace with yourself and with nature. The physical benefits can include strength in muscles, improved sleeping patterns and flexibility.

What is your favourite type of yoga to practice?

Hatha Yoga (sun salutation, pranayama and meditation)

Which type of yoga would you recommend for guests looking to combat jet lag?

I would recommend practicing sun salutation, pranayama and yoga nidra regularly; it will energise you and help to defeat jet lag, fatigue and stress.

Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti recently launched a new meditation experience. Why do you think this area is growing in importance?

The kopje meditation experience will bring us closer to nature and remind people about the importance of nature. Modern life can often diminish our ability to enjoy the beauty and importance of our natural surroundings.

How do the natural surroundings of the Serengeti plains enhance the yoga and meditation experience?

The magnificent Serengeti plains are the perfect place for yoga, meditation and to perform spiritual practices. It is reminiscent of the ancient sage’s lifestyle, when they lived in the forests and did their practices.

What is the yoga healing experience designed to do?

The answer is in itself – the healing power of yoga can help us to self-heal and heals others around us.
